“We like to think that our wines able to transmit the passion that drives us into the vineyards at the first light of dawn. Passion that sometimes gets our hands so dirty that we can’t wash them, which occupies a large part of our time, our thoughts and our own lives.”
Early in 2024 while “mining out” new prospects references to the name Cantina Franchetto in Soave kept coming up from wine journals to Roman wine bar reviews! The narrative was the same, these are quite extraordinary wines from the volcanic rich soils of Soave. Meeting Giulia Franchetto for the first time you cannot help but become intrigued by her passion for her vineyards and for producing traditional Soave. Tasting her wines for the first time confirmed the transition from brilliant vineyards to complex, elegant yet powerful wines. And so we began …Since the 19th century the Franchetto family has lived and cultivated the land in Terrossa, a small village east of the town of Soave. Situated in the Val d’Alpone at the foothills of the Lessini mountains, the region offers wild and rich biodiversity made up of long extinct volcanic formations. The modern story of Cantina Franchetto really begins in 1982 when Antonio Franchetto at the early age of 20 recognizes the great potential of his vineyards and begins to produce his own wines. Presently, Antonio passion to work his vineyards continues but now alongside his daughter Giulia who represents the next generation of family farming.Innovation and the principles of sustainability are at the heart of their farm. Minimizing their carbon footprint, the winery has been entirely self-sufficient in energy thanks to their solar panels which cover the roof top of their modest winery. The family are great stewards of their land meticulously monitoring the ecological health of their fields using natural fertilizers combined with labour intensive vineyard management. As Giulia has noted:
"In my wines I seek the authentic expression of my land and its history. I imagine my wines clean, direct and free to express their character. This is why my father, and I have chosen to work in a simple way, allowing our wines to be a pure expression of the grapes and the territory in which they were born.”Giulia Franchetto
"We have always cultivated with love and respect the environment around us, aware that a healthy ecosystem is the basis for obtaining high quality wines. It is for this reason that we have decided to take a path that allows us to minimize the impact that our work has on the land in order to leave our family vineyards in good health for us and for the next generations of winemakers.”Giulia Franchetto
